Soapbox QC: Do you have a few words to tell us about your experience as a Soapbox science speaker?

Dr. Valérie Langlois : Superbe expérience ! C'était fantastique de pouvoir interagir avec le public. Comme chercheuses nous faisons souvent des entrevues avec des journalistes afin qu'ils informent le public de nos recherches, mais ça ne nous donne pas le contact direct avec le public, alors de pouvoir répondre à leurs questions en petits groupes, ce fût vraiment un plaisir gratifiant. Merci à l'équipe de Soapbox Science!

Translation: Great experience! It was great to interact with the public. As researchers we often do interviews with journalists to inform the public about our research, but that doesn't give us the direct contact with the public, so to be able to answer their questions in small groups was really a rewarding pleasure. Thanks to the Soapbox Science team!

 Dr. Geneviève Gariépy : J’ai adoré l’expérience Soapbox Science – quelle fantastique idée, et quelle merveilleuse exécution de la part de IWS Québec! Je n’ai jamais participé à un événement qui nous donne autant la chance d’interagir avec le public. J’ai été emballée par leur intérêt marqué, leur enthousiasme et leurs questions. Ce fut un plaisir d’échanger avec des gens de tous âges et, je l’espère, d’encourager les plus jeunes à s’intéresser à une carrière en science !

Translation: I loved the Soapbox Science experience - what a fantastic idea, and what a wonderful execution by IWS Quebec City! I have never been to an event that gives us the opportunity to interact with the audience so much. I was thrilled with their keen interest, enthusiasm, and questions. It was a pleasure to interact with people of all ages and I hope this will encourage younger people to become interested in a career in science!
